Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided not to organize the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) this year. BCB president Tamim Iqbal had earlier informed that importance will be given to the structural reform of the tournament instead of organizing BPL this year. This time three franchises—Rangpur Riders, Rajshahi Warriors and Dhaka Capitals—have informed about agreeing with this decision of the board.

After a meeting held at BCB on Saturday it was informed from the side of the franchises that creating a new and effective structure is more urgent than organising BPL in the previous model. They are in favour of organizing BPL in an ideal model after the reform.

CEO of Rajshahi Warriors Moksedul Kamal Babu said they want BPL on the field and the continuity of the tournament is also needed. However it is necessary to create such a model by solving the previous problems so that BCB, franchise and players—all parties benefit.

CEO of Rangpur Riders Ishtiaq Sadek has also given opinion in favour of organizing BPL in the new structure. At the same time the franchise has sought a specific calendar from BCB for long-term planning.

Ishtiaq Sadek said the market situation is getting worse day by day. In this situation it is more logical to take time and create a good model than creating uncertainty over the remuneration of the players by organizing BPL only in name.

CEO of Dhaka Capitals Atik Fahad informed that BCB has informed about giving four-five months time to the franchises to create the new model of BPL. He also informed that they will not stay if the tournament is organized like the last two years. However Dhaka Capitals has interest in staying in BPL if the new model comes.

Atik Fahad said BCB president Tamim Iqbal wants to create a new model to increase the quality of BPL and they are ready to give the necessary time for that initiative.

As a result the matter of BPL not being held this year has become almost certain. However what will be the plan of BCB with the cricketers in the fixed time of BPL has now become a big question.
