BPL Players’ Auction rescheduled again
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council again on Wednesday announced a revised date for the BPL Players’ Auction 2026.
The auction will now be held on 30 November instead of 23 November at the Grand Ballroom of Radisson Blu Dhaka, starting from 3:00 pm.
According to the BCB, the change was made to ensure smooth coordination among stakeholders and to facilitate a well-organised event as preparations continue for the 12th edition of the franchise T20 league.
This time, the entire event is in uncertainty as the franchises did not submit bank guarantees before the start of the BPL.
Sources said that none of the five teams provided the full guarantee. Dhaka Capitals provided half; Sylhet Titans provided a partial deposit; there is no clear idea about the deposit amount of Rangpur, Rajshahi and Chittagong - the statements of the members are also inconsistent.
However, member secretary Iftekhar Ahmed claimed that they received full guarantees from Dhaka, Rangpur and Rajshahi; Sylhet and Chittagong did not provide any money.
He also said that the bank guarantee deposit time of the franchises was extended from November 13 to November 18. Still, not everyone was able to submit the guarantee. Some teams also asked for additional time. So in the end, there was no other option but to postpone the auction. Now the plan is to take over the responsibility of the Chittagong franchise without paying a single taka and bring in outside investment to at least advance this year's tournament in some way.
Several members of the Governing Council believe that it is not possible to pull in the remaining franchises with the money guaranteed by the three teams. Therefore, the BCB is walking on the path of finding new investors and alternative plans.
