The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which has been running for over a decade, will now be known as the Bangladesh Football League (BFL).

In a press release issued on Thursday (September 25), the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) confirmed the change, finalised after an emergency executive meeting and consultations with participating clubs.

The professional league was first introduced in 2007 as the “B League” following recommendations from the Asian Football Confederation. It was renamed “Bangladesh League” in 2008 and later became the “Bangladesh Premier League” in 2011. Now, after 13 years, the name has been changed again.

BFF sources said the decision was taken to eliminate confusion with cricket’s Bangladesh Premier League (also BPL) and to strengthen new branding efforts. A fresh league logo will also be unveiled.

The new season kicks off on Friday (September 26) in Munshiganj and Manikganj. With the last-minute name change, clubs are rushing to update banners and promotional materials.

BFF is also in talks with new sponsors, as the deal with Bashundhara Group has ended, though no official announcement has been made yet.
