BPL season 12 begins without trophy unveiling
After multiple delays and setbacks, the 12th season of the Bangladesh Premier League, BPL, got underway on Friday at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, without the customary trophy unveiling.
The tournament began without a formal trophy launch or captains’ day as the trophy did not arrive in the country on time. Traditionally, captains of all teams pose with the trophy ahead of the competition, but that practice was skipped this year.
Earlier, a large-scale opening ceremony planned in Dhaka was cancelled due to security concerns. As a result, the tournament started in a low-key manner, with the first match beginning at 3.00pm.
Before the match, players from both teams lined up for the national anthem, followed by recitation from the Holy Quran. A minute’s silence was observed in memory of Shaheed Osman Hadi. BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul later officially declared the tournament open by releasing thousands of balloons.
Entertainment arrangements were also made for spectators. Popular musician Fuad Al Muqtadir is scheduled to perform during the innings break, along with a special light show.
