Brazil announces preliminary squad for World Cup, Neymar included
With just one month left until the FIFA World Cup, Brazil has finalised its 55-member preliminary squad to be submitted to FIFA on Monday, May 11. According to Brazilian journalist Diogo Dantos, as reported by Brazilian media outlet Globo, Neymar Junior and the injured Estevao will be included in the list.
Although included in the preliminary squad, Neymar's place in the final 26-member squad remains uncertain. Coach Ancelotti has indicated that the 34-year-old star could be considered for the World Cup squad if he shows improvement in his fitness during the preparatory phase. However, sources within the Brazilian Football Confederation have said the matter has not yet been confirmed.
On the other hand, Real Madrid players Endrick and Rodrygo are almost certain to miss the World Cup due to injuries. There is little chance of them fully recovering before the tournament. The coaching staff is on high alert regarding upcoming matches, fearing further injuries.
According to FIFA regulations, if a player is confirmed injured, they can be replaced from the preliminary 55-member squad. The same rule applies to goalkeepers.
If Estevao fails to recover in time, a replacement will be chosen from the 55-member squad already submitted to FIFA. Possible alternatives being considered include Ryan and Endrick, though Luis Henrique's place is considered almost certain.
The CBF hopes that Estevao, currently undergoing treatment at Palmeiras, will fully recover before the World Cup's opening matches. The Brazilian football authorities are closely monitoring his progress, and plans for a replacement if necessary are also being considered.
