Brazil beat Egypt in World Cup warm-up
Five-time world champions Brazil secured a 2-1 victory over Egypt in an international friendly as both sides continued preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Huntington Bank Field in Ohio, United States.
Brazil made a flying start, taking the lead in the seventh minute when midfielder Bruno Guimarães capitalized on a costly mistake by Egypt's Mohanad Lasheen and calmly slotted home. Egypt, however, responded quickly and restored parity just minutes later after a misplaced back-pass from Brazil captain Marquinhos allowed Mostafa Ziko to find the net.
The teams went into halftime level at 1-1, but Brazil regained control after the break. In the 52nd minute, rising star Endrick fired home a first-time finish from an excellent assist by Raphinha, scoring what proved to be the match-winning goal.
With the World Cup just days away, both coaches made extensive substitutions to assess squad depth and tactical options. Egypt pushed hard for an equalizer in the closing stages, but Brazil's defense stood firm to preserve the lead.
Despite the defeat, Egypt produced an encouraging display. Goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir was among the standout performers, making several crucial saves to deny Brazil's attack, including efforts from Vinícius Júnior and other Brazilian forwards.
The match once again highlighted the growing competitiveness of international football, with traditionally smaller teams increasingly capable of challenging the sport's established powers. While the victory will boost Brazil's confidence ahead of the World Cup, Egypt can also take several positives from a spirited performance against one of the tournament favorites.
