Brazil breezes past Chile in FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers
Brazil delivered a commanding 3–0 victory over Chile in their penultimate 2026 World Cup qualifier, dominating the match at the iconic Maracanã Stadium.
The result lifts the Seleção to second place in the CONMEBOL standings, with qualification for the tournament already secured.
Despite missing key attackers Neymar and Vinícius Júnior, Brazil fielded a youthful squad that controlled the game from the outset. Under the guidance of head coach Carlo Ancelotti, the hosts maintained 65% possession and registered 22 shots on goal, while Chile managed only three attempts.
Teenage forward Estevão Willian opened the scoring in the 38th minute, marking his first senior goal in national colors. Brazil intensified their attack in the second half, and substitute Lucas Paquetá made an immediate impact by doubling the lead in the 73rd minute—just moments after coming on. Midfielder Bruno Guimarães sealed the win with a well-taken goal in the 76th.
Ancelotti praised the performance and maturity of the younger players, many of whom play for top European clubs. “Even without some of our most experienced players, the team showed great quality and composure,” he said post-match.
Brazil will conclude their World Cup qualifying campaign on September 10.
