Brazil could play in India, Bangladesh also in talks

Five-time world champions Brazil are likely to tour India for a friendly match at Kolkata's iconic Salt Lake Stadium in October, according to ESPN Brazil . The match is set to be a part of Brazil's preparation for the next Copa América, and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is close to finalising the deal with Indian organisers.

The massive fan following for the Brazilian team in India, especially the viral images of Kolkata supporters celebrating during the 2026 World Cup, has caught the attention of CBF officials, prompting them to consider playing a match there.

According to the ESPN Brazil report, Brazil are planning to play three friendlies between September and October, taking advantage of FIFA's new 'Super Window' calendar . Two matches in Australia have already been confirmed, with Brazil facing the Socceroos in Townsville on September 25 and in Brisbane on September 29.

The third match is planned for early October in Kolkata. The CBF had initially considered a fourth match, and Bangladesh was among the options, along with Singapore . However, after factoring in the long travel, player rest and preparation, they decided to stick with three matches, leaving Bangladesh and Singapore out of the final plan.

If the match in Kolkata goes ahead, it will add a new chapter to the city's rich football history. In 1977, Pelé played for the New York Cosmos against Mohun Bagan at Eden Gardens. Later, Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi also graced the city with their presence.

Neither the CBF nor Indian football authorities have made any official announcement regarding the match, but ESPN Brazil has reported that discussions are in the final stages.
