Brazil now become champions in cricket

Brazil, known around the world as the country of football, have now made history in cricket as well. Ending a 31-year wait, the country won the South American Cricket Championship title for the first time.

The South American Cricket Championship, which began in 1995, is being held for the 21st time. Brazil had previously finished runners-up in 1997, 2015, 2022 and 2024.

This time, they defeated Panama by three runs to lift the tournament trophy for the first time.

Argentina are the most successful team in the competition, having won the title 12 times. However, they did not participate in the last two editions.

In the championship held in Colombia on Sunday (9 August), Brazil scored 128 for seven against Panama. William Maximo was their top scorer with 35 runs in the final.

Chasing 129, Panama fought hard, with Mahmed Bawer scoring 46. However, they fell short due to economical bowling from Asuncao and Gabriel Oliveira. Panama finished on 125 for five.

Asuncao successfully defended 14 runs in the final over, conceding 10 runs and taking one wicket.

He finished with two wickets for 19 runs in three overs. Oliveira also took one wicket for 16 runs in four overs, while Yasa Harun claimed two wickets.
