Brazil president discusses Neymar's World Cup future with Brazil coach Ancelotti
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has discussed the inclusion of Neymar in the national team's World Cup squad with head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Lula himself revealed this information in an interview with the website 'Brasil 247'.
He said there is no doubt about Neymar's ability if he is physically fit, but the question is whether he is truly ready to play with full focus.
The president further stated that a place in the team cannot be granted based on name alone.
Citing the examples of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he said Neymar must also maintain 100 per cent professionalism and discipline to earn his place in the national team.
Neymar is currently playing for Santos in club football. He hinted at a return to form by scoring just four minutes into a match against Recoleta in the Copa Sudamericana.
Brazil's 26-member World Cup squad is set to be announced on May 18, 2026. Neymar has been told he must secure his place in the squad through strong performances before then.
