Brazil proposes October friendly against Bangladesh in Dhaka

Brazil have proposed playing a friendly against Bangladesh in Dhaka in October, with a delegation from the five-time world champions arriving in the capital on Sunday (August 23) to assess possible venues and discuss the fixture.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has proposed a match against Bangladesh at Dhaka's National Stadium on either October 5 or 6, during the FIFA international window running from September 19 to October 6, according to a senior Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) official.

Brazil are already scheduled to face India in a friendly in Kolkata on October 3. The Selecao are then considering travelling to Bangladesh as part of their South Asian tour.

The proposed fixture has yet to be confirmed, however, as Bangladesh have a pre-arranged schedule during the same period. The national team are set to compete in the ASEAN Cup in Indonesia, which begins on September 24. Bangladesh's group-stage campaign includes three matches and could extend until October 3 if they reach the final.

A five-member Brazilian delegation inspected Dhaka's National Stadium after arriving in the capital. They also visited Bashundhara Kings Arena before holding talks with BFF president Tabith Awal later in the evening.

If finalised, the match would be historic as Brazil have never previously played in Bangladesh. Argentina, led by Lionel Messi at the time, visited Dhaka in September 2011 for a friendly against Nigeria at the National Stadium.

The proposed Brazil-Bangladesh fixture would be one of the biggest international football events ever staged in the country, but the final decision will depend on Bangladesh's tournament commitments and the availability of the national team.
