Brazil star Bruno Guimaraes finally joins Arsenal

Arsenal won the English Premier League title in the 2025-26 season after 22 years. Mikel Arteta's side also came close to winning the Champions League, but PSG denied them the European crown for the second consecutive time. Now, with bigger goals ahead, the Gunners have planned to strengthen the squad. As part of that plan, they have secured Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. His move to the Emirates was almost certain, and the Gunners have now finalised the deal.

According to various reports, the 28-year-old Guimaraes has agreed to join Arsenal for approximately £75 million. Earlier, he had turned down the club's initial proposal. However, he was interested in playing for Arsenal, and after a revised offer was made to Newcastle, an agreement was reached between the two parties.

According to transfer sources, Guimaraes has completed his medical before signing a four-year contract with Arsenal. He has also spoken with head coach Mikel Arteta. An official announcement on the transfer is expected soon.

Guimaraes had already informed Newcastle that he would be interested in joining Arsenal if a suitable offer came. However, Newcastle also wanted to keep their captain. He still had two years remaining on his current contract with St James' Park, with an option to extend for another year.

Describing the move as one of the "toughest decisions" of his life, Guimaraes said, "This transfer was very difficult because Newcastle meant a lot to me. But I wanted to experience something new in my life. I am ready to take on a new challenge for myself and my family."

Newcastle have wished Guimaraes and his family well. He left Newcastle's training camp in La Manga, Spain, earlier this week.

Guimaraes joined a relegation-threatened Newcastle in January 2022. He made a significant contribution to the team's progress under former manager Eddie Howe. As the first captain in seven decades, he led Newcastle to their first major domestic trophy, with the side beating Liverpool in the EFL Cup final last year.
