A special scene is seen in Bangladesh whenever the Football World Cup comes. From village sidewalks to city alleys, from school grounds to roof railings—the flags of Brazil and Argentina fly everywhere. Surprisingly, many children become supporters of one team without knowing anything about the history, football tradition, or players of these countries. The question is, why do children in Bangladesh support Brazil or Argentina without realizing it? There are various social, family, cultural, and psychological reasons behind this.

Family influence is the biggest reason
A child's first school is his family. He gets ideas about various things from his parents, older siblings, or relatives. In most families in Bangladesh, if the father is a Brazil supporter, then the child also grows up wearing the Brazilian jersey from childhood. On the other hand, if the father or older brother is a supporter of Argentina, then the child also becomes attracted to that team. Many times, children do not know where Brazil is or on which continent Argentina is located. But they accept the family's favorite team as their own. As a result, the support becomes an inherited identity.

Influence of social environment
In Bangladesh, the Football World Cup is not just a game, it is a kind of social festival. When the World Cup comes, neighborhoods are divided into Brazil and Argentina camps. Flags are hoisted on the streets, banners are put up, processions are held; everything attracts the attention of children. When a child sees that most of the people around him are supporting a team, he is also attracted to that team. Because children naturally want to fit in with society. Therefore, they start supporting a team under the influence of friends or neighbors.

Tendency to follow friends
The influence of friends is very strong on the psychology of children. If he goes to school and sees that four or five of his friends are supporters of Argentina, then he may also become a supporter of Argentina. Again, if the number of Brazil supporters is high in other environments, he may become a fan of Brazil. Sometimes, there is competition among children about choosing a team. They become supporters of a team just to discuss, argue with friends, or have fun on the playground.

Popularity of star players
In the history of football, Brazil and Argentina have always produced the world's best players. Brazilian legendary footballers Pele, Ronaldinho and Neymar or Argentine great stars Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi have won the hearts of millions of football fans around the world. Children usually love to follow stars. They wear their favorite player's jersey, cut their hair like him, and even imitate his posture while playing. As a result, many children become supporters of a particular country due to the popularity of the player.

Influence of media and televisio
During the World Cup in Bangladesh, Brazil and Argentina are the most discussed teams on television, YouTube, Facebook and other social media. The media also publishes various reports focusing on these two teams. When children hear the names of these two teams repeatedly, they naturally become interested in them. Since Brazil and Argentina are more in the news than other countries, children are also more attracted to them.

Long-standing football culture
The history of supporting football in Bangladesh is very old. The rivalry between Brazil and Argentina fans has been going on since the 1980s and 1990s. That tradition has been passed down from generation to generation. When today's children see their parents or grandparents supporting the same team for many years, they also become part of that continuity. As a result, the support becomes a cultural identity.

Attraction to colorful jerseys and flags
Children are naturally attracted to bright colors. The yellow-green jersey of Brazil and the sky-blue and white jersey of Argentina seem very attractive to children. During the World Cup, various types of jerseys, flags, badges and toys are available in the market. These colorful materials create passion for the team in children. Sometimes, a child becomes a supporter of a team just because they like the jersey.

Attraction to winning teams
People usually like to follow successful ones. Brazil has won the World Cup five times and Argentina multiple times. The success of these two countries in the history of football is very bright. When children hear that a team has won the World Cup many times or produced the best players in the world, they are interested in supporting that team. Because they want to associate themselves with the winners.

Easy transmission of emotions
Children naturally pick up on the emotions and feelings of others very quickly. When family members cheer on Brazil or Argentina, shout with joy when they score a goal, or express disappointment when they lose; then that emotion has a deep impact on the child's mind. Even if they do not know about the strategy or history of the game, they become part of the joys and sorrows of the family. Gradually, that emotional connection motivates them to support a specific team and that is the beginning of their love for football.

Weak presence of the national team
Bangladesh has not yet been able to make it to the main stage of the World Cup, the highest international football tournament. As a result, when the World Cup comes, the country's football fans do not see their national team there. Due to this emptiness, many choose popular teams like Brazil or Argentina as their 'second team'. This emotion and support from the elders of the family also spreads to the children. They develop a fondness for a particular group from an early age by following their parents, siblings or relatives and gradually become devoted supporters of that team.

Becoming a part of the identity

For many children, being a fan of Brazil or Argentina is not just a matter of loving football, but it also becomes a special identity for them. Some proudly identify themselves as a supporter of Brazil, while others present themselves as a fan of Argentina. This identity creates a special importance and position for them in school, playgrounds or in the company of friends. Friendships are formed with supporters of the same team, and funny arguments and debates also take place with supporters of rival teams. As a result, their passion, loyalty and support for a team become stronger and over time it becomes a part of their personality.

Participating in the joy of the festival
When the World Cup comes, a unique festive atmosphere is created in Bangladesh, one of the beneficiaries of which are children. It is a great joy for them to hoist the flag of their favorite team on the streets, rooftops and alleys, walk around wearing the team's jersey, watch the game with family and discuss football with friends. Many children may not know much about the history, tactics or players of a team, but the atmosphere of celebration surrounding the World Cup attracts them deeply. So, many times, they support a team to be a part of this joyous celebration rather than analyzing the game and through that support, they keep themselves connected to the World Cup madness.

Brazil or Argentina not only because they understand football; but also because of the influence of family, society, friends, media, star players, colorful jerseys and long-standing cultural traditions. In many cases, they become supporters without knowing the details about the team. However, there is no reason to view this negatively. Rather, this interest in football attracts children to the sport, builds social bonds and creates opportunities to share joy.
