Brobbey, Gakpo doubles as Netherlands crush Sweden 5-1
Netherlands tore apart Sweden's defensive wall with a sensational 5-1 victory in their World Cup Group F match at the NRG Stadium in Houston on Saturday, June 21. Ronald Koeman's side ran riot, with Brian Brobbey scoring twice in the first half and Cody Gakpo adding a brace after the break.
Brobbey opened the scoring in the fifth minute, finishing off a brilliant pass from Cody Gakpo. He doubled the lead in the 17th minute, this time converting a low cross from Denzel Dumfries.
Gakpo extended the lead early in the second half, scoring the third goal before completing his brace in the 53rd minute to make it 4-0.
Sweden pulled one back through substitute Anthony Elanga in the 59th minute, but Netherlands added a fifth in stoppage time to seal the emphatic win.
Netherlands, who had drawn 2-2 with Japan in their opening match, bounced back in style with this victory. The win puts them in a strong position in the group, while Sweden, who had beaten Tunisia 5-1 in their first match, were completely outplayed by the Dutch.
