BTRC Deputy Director Amjad Hossain permanently dismissed from job
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has permanently dismissed Deputy Director Md Amjad Hossain (Nipu) for corruption, misconduct, and forming a fraudulent syndicate within the organisation.
BTRC Chairman Major General (Retd) Md. Emdad-ul-Bari confirmed the decision in an office order issued on November 11. "The decision will be effective immediately in the public interest," the order said.
Amjad, who also served as private secretary to a former BTRC chairman, faced multiple allegations including embezzlement, abuse of authority, discrimination in appointments, and manipulation of tenders and licenses.
A three-member investigation committee confirmed violations under the 2018 Discipline Rules and the 2022 BTRC Service Regulations.
Investigations revealed substantial illegal wealth, including FDRs worth hundreds of millions in his and relatives’ names, 10 flats and 50% of land in Dhaka, misappropriated funds, and bribes related to corporate SIM activation and unregistered foreign-owned VAS services.
He also reportedly leveraged political influence from his student political background to dominate BTRC operations and influence over 500 ISP licenses, compelling around 10,000 employees to act against student protests during the July 2024 unrest.
Following long investigations and legal procedures, BTRC has finalised his permanent dismissal.
