Bulbul in Lahore for urgent ICC-PCB meeting
The ICC has now been stirred into action to resolve the complications arising around the T20 World Cup. The governing body of world cricket is holding an emergency meeting regarding the issues of boycotting the India-Pakistan match and the exclusion of Bangladesh. BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul arrived in Lahore, Pakistan, at 1:00 am on Saturday to participate in this tripartite meeting. He is scheduled to return to Dhaka this afternoon after concluding meetings with top officials of the PCB and ICC.
Due to security concerns over playing in India, the ICC excluded Bangladesh from this year's World Cup and included Scotland instead. The BCB's proposal was to host the matches in Sri Lanka, which the organisation rejected. In protest and to show solidarity with Bangladesh, the Pakistan government announced a boycott of the match against India.
Today's emergency meeting aims to break this deadlock between the ICC, PCB, and BCB. A source close to the BCB informed that the BCB President is visiting Pakistan on an urgent basis to discuss the contemporary situation and the recent controversial decisions.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has consistently termed Bangladesh's exclusion as 'unjust'. Meanwhile, if Pakistan boycotts the match against India scheduled for February 15, the ICC faces a potential loss of approximately 6,000 crore rupees (estimated). The ICC aims to reach a quick resolution to avoid this massive loss from broadcasting rights and sponsorship.
