Businessman shot, 200 bhori gold looted
A gold merchant was shot and robbed of about 200 bhori gold and Tk100,000 in cash in Banasree area of Rampura police station in the capital.
The incident took place in front of house number 20 on Road No. 7, D Block, Banasree at 10:30pm on Sunday.
At that time, residents from a nearby building recorded a video of the robbery and shooting on their mobile phones. It went viral on Facebook.
The video shows three men getting off a motorcycle and trying to snatch a bag from businessman Anwar Hossain, 43. He did not let go of the bag. At one point in the struggle, one of them shot him. Later, they snatched the bag and fled on a motorcycle.
Relatives of the injured Anwar said that Anwar had 200 bhori gold ornaments and Tk100,000 in cash in his bag. They believe that the miscreants followed him from the shop.
Rampura Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mashiul Alam said that Anwar, who was shot, was first sent to Banasree's Faraji Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He had four bullet wounds on his body. He was also hit with a sharp weapon in at least six places. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and bullet shells were recovered from the scene.
It is learned that Anwar has a jewelry shop called 'Alankar Jewelers' on Road No. 5, C Block, Banasree. He has been in the gold business for about 15 years. He lives with his family at House No. 20 on Road No. 7, D Block. He walks from his business to his home. Like every night, on Sunday night, he was walking home with 200 bhari gold jewelry from the shop in a bag.
