Buttler sets new world record for most runs in T20 cricket

England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has set a new world record for the most runs in T20 cricket, surpassing former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard to become the highest run-scorer in the history of the format.

Buttler achieved the feat while playing for Manchester Super Giants against Welsh Fire in The Hundred tournament. He played a blistering unbeaten innings of 51 runs off just 20 balls, hitting two fours and six sixes. The knock not only propelled his team towards victory but also earned him the new world record.

Before the match, Buttler had 14,782 runs in his T20 career. He needed just 22 runs to surpass Pollard's tally of 14,803 runs. He comfortably achieved the target, and by the end of the innings, his total runs stood at 14,833.

The record is made even more special by the fact that he reached the milestone in fewer innings. While Pollard scored 14,803 runs in 663 innings, Buttler reached 14,833 in just 492 innings. This means he became the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket while playing 171 fewer innings.

The record for the most runs in T20 cricket has changed hands several times. West Indies legend Chris Gayle had long topped the list. He was later overtaken by Kieron Pollard. Now, Jos Buttler has broken that record to write a new chapter in history.

The 35-year-old Buttler has so far scored nine centuries and 106 half-centuries in his T20 career. He has scored 4,212 runs for England in international T20 cricket. He has established himself as one of the finest batters in T20 history through consistent performances in various franchise leagues around the world, including the IPL, SA20 and The Hundred.
