Call for India to return Hasina–Kamal to Bangladesh

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged India to promptly return former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal—both fugitives sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal for crimes against humanity.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 17, the ministry said that in today’s verdict, fugitives Hasina and Kamal were found guilty of the July massacre. The statement noted that granting refuge to individuals convicted of crimes against humanity constitutes disregard for justice and is an unfriendly gesture.

The Foreign Ministry further stated, “We call upon the Government of India to immediately hand over these two convicted individuals to the Bangladeshi authorities. Under the existing extradition treaty between the two countries, this is an obligation India is bound to fulfil.”
