Vince Zampella, 55, co-creator of the popular video game Call of Duty, died in a car accident in California on Sunday, Electronic Arts (EA) confirmed.

Zampella was traveling in a Ferrari on a Los Angeles highway with another passenger when the vehicle crashed and caught fire, killing both occupants at the scene.

Authorities have not confirmed who was driving or the identity of the second passenger.

A spokesperson for EA described the incident as “an unimaginable loss” and extended condolences to Zampella’s family, friends, and fans.

Zampella co-created Call of Duty in 2003 with longtime collaborators Jason West and Grant Collier. Inspired in part by World War II, the game has sold over 50 million copies worldwide and is currently being adapted into a live-action film.
