Canada has issued a fresh travel advisory for visiting Bangladesh, urging its citizens to exercise a high degree of caution amid concerns over the country’s political climate, protests, clashes and possible disruptions linked to political and judicial developments.

In its updated travel advice, the Canadian government warned that demonstrations and violent incidents could erupt suddenly in different parts of Bangladesh, with conditions capable of changing rapidly. Such unrest could disrupt traffic, force shops and businesses to close and interfere with normal daily life.

Canadian travellers have been advised to avoid large gatherings and demonstrations, follow instructions from local authorities and remain prepared for sudden changes in the security situation.

The advisory takes a stricter position on the Chittagong Hill Tracts, urging Canadians to avoid all travel to the region because of risks including political violence, armed clashes and kidnapping.

Canadians already in Bangladesh have been advised to monitor local news closely and be prepared to alter their travel and movement plans if security conditions deteriorate.

The latest update follows previous revisions to Canada’s Bangladesh travel advice in September and December last year.

Ottawa has also urged Canadians planning to visit Bangladesh to check the latest official travel advisory before departure and avoid areas affected by demonstrations, political programmes or unrest.

The warning comes as Bangladesh continues to navigate a politically sensitive period, prompting foreign governments to closely monitor developments that could affect public security and travel.
