Spain continued to dominate possession but failed to break through a resilient Cape Verde defence as their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group H clash remained goalless after 60 minutes.

Despite sustained pressure, the scoreline stood at 0–0 at the hour mark, with the African debutants delivering a disciplined and determined defensive performance in their first-ever World Cup appearance.

Spain created several clear opportunities, including a powerful effort from Ferran Torres that struck the crossbar. The rebound saw Mikel Oyarzabal attempt a header, which was brilliantly saved by Cape Verde goalkeeper Vózinha. Earlier in the first half, both Torres and defender Aymeric Laporte were denied by the 40-year-old shot-stopper, who produced a series of key saves to keep his side level.

Vózinha has been at the heart of Cape Verde’s resistance, repeatedly frustrating Spain’s forwards with his composure and reflexes, helping maintain parity against one of the tournament favourites.

Cape Verde entered the match after making history with the oldest starting XI in the competition so far, averaging 31 years and 26 days, with Vózinha standing out as the most experienced member of the squad.
