Cape Verde's World Cup hero Vozinha joins new club

Vozinha's fairytale World Cup campaign has earned him a new destination. After impressing with his performances on the global stage, the 40-year-old veteran goalkeeper has signed with Chilean giants Colo Colo .

Colo Colo president Anibal Mosa confirmed the deal on Friday (July 24), stating, "Vozinha is set to become a Colo Colo player. He will arrive in Chile in the coming days, undergo the necessary medical tests, and will then be presented at the Monumental Stadium" .

According to local media reports, the Cape Verde goalkeeper has signed an 18-month contract with the 34-time Chilean champions .

Born Josimar Dias, the goalkeeper is known to the football world as Vozinha. He was instrumental in guiding the small island nation of Cape Verde to the Round of 32 in their World Cup debut, before they were eliminated 3-2 by Lionel Messi's Argentina after extra time .

Vozinha's shot-stopping heroics against two of the tournament's finalists — Spain and Argentina — made him one of the most talked-about players of the World Cup . He made a total of 18 saves during the campaign, kept two clean sheets, and earned a place in the official Team of the Tournament .

His performances also had a dramatic impact on his popularity. Before the tournament, he had fewer than 50,000 followers on social media. Within a few weeks of the World Cup ending, that number had surged to nearly 29 million .
