Cast vote for yes in referendum: Tarique Rahman
BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has publicly sought votes in support of “yes” in the upcoming referendum, scheduled to be held along with the February 12 general election.
He said: "I request all of you – just as you will put the seal on the ‘sheaf of paddy’ on February 12, on the second ballot paper, please give your verdict in favour of ‘yes’."
He made the call while addressing an election rally in Rangpur on Friday.
“Abu Sayed gave his life to bring back rights. Wasim in Chattogram also gave his life. Thousands like them sacrificed their lives for people’s voting rights, the right to speak, and economic rights. To honour these sacrifices, we must also respect the July Charter that we signed," he added.
He said that about two and a half years ago, when fascist rule gripped the country, the BNP placed a 31-point reform proposal before the nation.
Earlier in the day, around 2:00pm, he left Bogura for Rangpur.
At around 5:55pm, Tarique Rahman went to Babanpur Jafarpara village in Pirganj upazila, where Shaheed Abu Sayed, the first martyr of the July 2024 Uprising, is buried.
After offering prayers at the grave, he sat in the yard in front of Abu Sayed's house and spoke with his family members.
Later, Tarique Rahman left for a rally at the Eidgah ground in Rangpur.
