CBFC clears Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 after nearly four minutes of cuts

Emraan Hashmi's much-anticipated Awarapan 2 has received clearance from India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but only after undergoing nine mandatory modifications, including the removal of nearly four minutes of footage ahead of its theatrical release.

According to the CBFC certificate issued on August 5, 2026, the film has been awarded a UA16+ rating, making it suitable for viewers aged 16 and above under parental guidance. The final runtime stands at 140 minutes and 20 seconds, and the film will be released in Hindi with English subtitles.

As part of the certification process, the board directed the makers to include statutory warnings on drug use and child trafficking, along with anti-drug messages at multiple points in the film. A permanent anti-smoking disclaimer and the Hindi title card were also made mandatory.

The CBFC further ordered the replacement of offensive language in both audio and subtitles, trimmed several violent sequences, reduced the intensity of one violent scene by 50 percent, and edited a sequence depicting drug consumption. The closing credits were also revised to better align with the film's background score.

Following the required edits, Awarapan 2 is set to hit cinemas on August 14, 2026.
