CCGP approves import of 10.75 lakh MT fertilizer

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) today approved six separate proposals to import a total of 10,75,000 metric tons (MT) of fertilizer to maintain adequate supply of farm inputs and support domestic agricultural production.

The approvals were given at the 45th meeting of the CCGP held at the Cabinet Division in the city, with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.

Of the approved proposals, five were placed by the Ministry of Agriculture and one by the Ministry of Industries.

Under the approvals, 35,000 MT of MOP fertilizers will be imported from Russia under an existing agreement between JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg), Russia, and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). The fertilizer will cost TK 166.09 crore, at $383.80 per MT.

The committee also approved the import of 40,000 MT of bulk granular urea from Saudi Arabia by the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries.

The consignment, to be sourced from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company under the FY2026-27 agreement, will cost TK 193.56 crore, at $391.66 per MT.

Another 40,000 MT of DAP fertilizer under 3rd lot will be imported from Morocco under a government-to-government agreement between OCP NUTRICROPS S.A. and BADC. The procurement cost has been fixed at TK 437.36 crore, at $885 per MT.

The CCGP also approved the import of 5 lakh MT of DAP fertilizer through 19 designated private importers at a total cost of $46.90 crore, at $938 per MT.
The fertilizer will be sourced from countries including Morocco, Russia, Jordan, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.

Besides, approval was given to import 2.20 lakh MT of MOP fertilizer through 14 private enterprises at a cost of $8.77 crore, at $398.97 per MT. The fertilizer will be imported from Russia, Canada and Belarus.

Approval was given to import 2 lakh MT of TSP fertilizer through 10 private enterprises at a cost of $15.12 crore, at $756 per MT. The fertilizer will be imported from Lebanon, Bulgaria, Morocco and Tunisia.
