Charge sheet filed against cricketer Tofayel in rape case

Dhaka police have filed a charge sheet against Bangladesh ‘A’ team all-rounder Tofayel Ahmed Raihan over allegations of raping a young woman by luring her with a promise of marriage.

The charge sheet was submitted to court on November 30 by Sub-Inspector Samiul Islam, the investigation officer of the case.

According to the police, Tofayel allegedly befriended the victim via Facebook in January, later offering a romantic relationship, which she declined. He then reportedly promised marriage and allegedly raped her multiple times at different locations, including a hotel in Gulshan on January 31.

The victim lodged a formal complaint at Gulshan Police Station on August 1.

Tofayel had previously secured six weeks’ anticipatory bail from the High Court on September 24 but did not surrender to the trial court after the bail period ended.

Investigators confirmed that evidence such as hotel registration slips and passport copies were obtained, while DNA tests did not detect semen. However, the overall investigation—including the hotel booking records and medical reports—supports the allegations against the cricketer.

The next hearing is scheduled for December 30, when the charge sheet will be formally presented in court.
