ChatGPT on car dashboard
To make the driving experience smarter, ChatGPT has been added to Apple's infotainment platform CarPlay. From now on, you can talk to AI directly with voice commands from the car's dashboard.
Recently, Apple's new software update iOS 26.4 has allowed the use of third-party voice-based apps in CarPlay for the first time. ChatGPT has entered the platform by taking advantage of that opportunity.
How it will work
ChatGPT on CarPlay is completely voice-based. When the user asks a question, the AI will answer verbally. No text or images will be displayed on the screen so that the driver's attention is not disturbed. Voice has also been designated as the main medium in Apple's developer guidelines.
What you will get
This feature will work like the voice mode of a smartphone. You will get an immediate answer when you ask a question. There will be an end button, mute and unmute options to end the conversation. If you want, you can also see the history of previous conversations.
Limitations
In its current version, ChatGPT cannot control the car's technical functions or iPhone settings. It will mainly act as an information-based Q&A assistant. In addition, there is no 'wake word', so you have to tap the ChatGPT icon on the CarPlay screen to start a conversation.
According to technology analysts, this update will allow drivers to quickly get information without using their hands and is a significant step in the development of smart driving technology.
