Chhatra Dal, 2 other student organisations demand HSC exams be postponed
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti and Bangladesh Chhatra Federation have demanded the temporary postponement of ongoing HSC and equivalent exams due to continuous rain, flash floods and the disaster situation across the country.
In a joint statement, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam and General Secretary Nasir Uddin said millions of people are suffering in various areas due to heavy rain, flash floods and landslides. The disaster has disrupted students' preparation and created security risks, mental stress and travel difficulties.
They said over 2,67,000 families are marooned and more than 10 lakh people affected in seven districts. Many educational institutions have been turned into shelters, and students' books and materials have been destroyed. Fair evaluation of merit will not be possible under such circumstances, they argued.
Jatiya Chhatra Shakti also criticised the decision to hold exams amid the disaster, saying roads and exam centres in Chattogram, Sylhet and other regions are submerged. Many students cannot even reach their centres.
Bangladesh Chhatra Federation held a human chain at Dhaka University's Raju Sculpture and demanded the suspension of HSC and Alim exams, saying the impact of disasters has increased due to ignoring the environment in development planning.
