China agrees to buy US oil: Trump
US President Donald Trump has said that China has agreed to purchase American oil, describing it as a key outcome of ongoing trade and diplomatic talks between Washington and Beijing.
In an interview with Fox News aired Thursday evening (May 14) in the United States, Trump said the agreement followed his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
“They’ve agreed they want to buy oil from the United States,” Trump said, adding that shipments would be directed from US energy hubs including Texas, Louisiana and Alaska.
He said the arrangement would involve Chinese imports of US oil and broader energy cooperation, while also claiming that China agreed to support efforts related to Iran and would not supply military equipment to Tehran.
Trump further highlighted US energy production capacity, saying the United States produces more oil and gas than Saudi Arabia and Russia combined.
China is the largest importer of Iranian crude, while US energy exports to China have declined significantly in recent years amid trade tensions.
Chinese officials have not immediately confirmed the oil purchase agreement, but said both sides had reached a “series of new consensus” during the talks and agreed to maintain “constructive strategic stability” in bilateral relations.
Beijing also called for stability in the Middle East and urged a ceasefire and reopening of key shipping routes, according to its foreign ministry.
