China pledges $200,000 in emergency aid to Iran
China has announced $200,000 in emergency humanitarian assistance to Iran following damage caused by ongoing US and Israeli military operations.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the announcemnent during a briefing on Friday (March 13).
He said that attacks on schools and civilian targets violate international humanitarian law. The aid, provided through the Red Cross Society of China to the Red Crescent Society of Iran, will be used to support the families of the deceased and those affected by the conflict.
Jiakun added that China will continue assisting the Iranian people in addressing the crisis on humanitarian grounds.
Expressing concern over rising tensions in the Middle East, Jiakun called on all parties to halt military actions and return to dialogue, emphasizing respect for national sovereignty and security.
On February 28, a US Tomahawk missile strike hit Shajarah Tayyibah Primary School in Minab, southern Iran, killing at least 150 female students. Since then, joint US-Israel operations have killed more than 1,300 people and injured over 10,000 in Iran, including the country’s then-supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting US military bases in Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and the Gulf region. Reports indicate eight US service members have been killed in the exchanges.
Since early March, Iran has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz.
