China has called for restraint and warned against further escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, expressing “deep concern” over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.

Speaking at a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized Beijing’s opposition to actions that undermine international norms.

“China opposes any act that violates the principles of the UN Charter, including infringements on sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity,” Guo said.

His remarks came in response to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who issued a stark warning to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. In a social media post, Trump claimed the U.S. knows "exactly" where Khamenei is and that he is “safe for now,” but added, “Our patience is wearing thin.”

"We know exactly where the so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there — we are not going to take him out, at least not for now," Trump wrote. He added, "But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers," ending a follow-up post with, "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!"

Guo, without naming any country specifically, urged all parties — especially those with significant influence over Israel — to adopt a “fair and objective” stance. “The escalation of the situation in the Middle East serves no one’s interest,” he said. “Relevant parties should play a constructive role in easing tensions and preventing the conflict from spreading.”

Tensions have surged since Friday, when Israel launched a series of airstrikes targeting Iranian military and nuclear facilities. Iran responded with missile attacks, further intensifying the conflict.

According to official reports, at least 585 people have been killed and 1,326 injured in Iran since the Israeli strikes began. Israeli officials report at least 24 fatalities and hundreds more wounded from Iran’s retaliatory attacks.

China has condemned Israel’s actions and reiterated its call for diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue. Beijing has also moved to protect its citizens, advising them to leave the region. Guo stated that 791 Chinese nationals have been evacuated from Iran to safer locations, with over 1,000 more currently being relocated.
