Chinese envoy meets Saudi leaders to seek end to Iran conflict
As part of diplomatic efforts to reduce ongoing tensions in the Middle East, China's special envoy for Middle East affairs, Zhai Jun, has visited Saudi Arabia. The visit is part of Beijing's mediation efforts to halt the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
During his visit, Zhai Jun said China is ready to work closely with Saudi Arabia to maintain peace and stability in the Gulf region.
As part of this initiative, he is holding meetings with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Deputy Foreign Minister Jasem Al-Budaiwi. In the meetings, Zhai Jun referred to Saudi Arabia as China's "good friend and partner" and emphasised the importance of mutual cooperation to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.
During Monday's meeting with Prince Faisal, Zhai Jun expressed deep concern over the growing tensions in the Middle East. He said it is essential to respect the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Gulf countries even amid the ongoing conflict.
The Chinese envoy further stated that attacks on innocent civilians and military installations should be strongly condemned. He called on all parties to exercise restraint and emphasised prioritising regional stability and security.
Zhai Jun reiterated China's position, stating that military operations must be stopped immediately to end the current conflict. He urged all parties to reduce tensions and resolve issues through diplomatic dialogue.
