Chinese university advises students to 'fall in love' during spring break
While academic excellence is considered central to life among students in China, Sichuan Southwest Vocational College of Aviation has issued an exceptional directive for its students. The college has announced that the main theme of the spring break from April 1 to 6 will be 'watching flowers and enjoying romance'.
On Tuesday, the college's official WeChat account instructed teachers and students to put aside their books. The authorities' aim is for students to focus solely on entertainment and travel during the holiday.
Such initiatives are also encouraging the Chinese government. The country seeks to increase domestic consumption by promoting travel and recreational activities, which could help boost birth rates. In 2025, China's population has continuously declined, hitting a record low.
The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has issued official guidelines for child-friendly development and increasing benefits for larger families. Experts believe that by providing adequate time and money for childcare, redistributing resources, and increasing financial support, the government can play a helpful role in preventing population decline.
