Police have arrested Abhijit Dipke, a leader of India’s Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), from his home. NDTV has informed that president of the All India Students Association (AISA) Neha Bora has also been picked up from the Jantar Mantar area of Delhi.

These two leaders were scheduled to join the ‘Tiranga March’ programme at Central Park of Connaught Place of Delhi on Friday. Before the arrest of Dipke, the Station House Officer of Connaught Place Police Station went to his home with a notice. It was said in the notice that Dipke had announced public speeches and gatherings without valid permission.

Although NDTV has given the news of picking up Neha Bora, it has not given the details in this regard. The verified account of social media X ‘Neha Bora Team’ published a video after 6pm on Friday evening. In this police are seen trying to arrest Neha. It has been said in the caption of the post that police forcibly tried to arrest her while taking a procession from Mandi House towards the Election Commission.

News agency AFP has published a photo of the arrest of Neha. It has been said in the caption of the photo that the members of the security forces arrested her during the protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

The organisation had announced the programme of Tiranga March or procession with the national flag in protest against the arrest of CJP leaders Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Rank. To prevent the gathering, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) announced the closure of Central Park in the morning. More than 25,000 members of the security forces including police were deployed in the surrounding areas.

After noon a team of Delhi Police went to the home of Abhijit Dipke with a notice. It has been said in a report of Hindustan Times that the notice informed about the ban on processions and gatherings around Connaught Place citing the reasons of public security and keeping vehicle movement normal. It was also mentioned that protests can be held at the designated place by taking permission from the proper authorities.

Police further informed Dipke that Section 163 is currently in force in Connaught Place. Legal measures may be taken if this order is violated. It has been said in the report of NDTV that police arrested Dipke when he tried to join the programme even after receiving the notice.

In several photos published by AFP after 5pm on Friday afternoon, several people are seen flying the national flag of India in Connaught Place. The news agency has mentioned them as supporters of CJP.
