CJP threatens fresh protests over unkept promises

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has threatened to launch fresh, stringent protests from Tuesday if the government fails to release detained protesters as promised, despite assurances that no legal action would be taken against those who took part in the weeks-long demonstrations across India.

According to an NDTV report on Monday, the movement, led by Abhijit Deepke, had withdrawn its 37-day sit-in at Delhi's Jantar Mantar "in the spirit of honour" after the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan — one of their key demands.

However, CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka, in a post on X, accused the government of violating the agreement. He claimed that hundreds of students have been arrested in Bihar and Bengal, logistics volunteers in Delhi have been detained, and students in various states are being harassed.

"We demand the immediate withdrawal of all FIRs filed against protesters, the release of students, and that no new FIRs be filed by Delhi Police or police in BJP-ruled states. Otherwise, we will be forced to return to the streets," he said.

Ranka also demanded a written agreement on the withdrawal of cases within 24 hours.

Following the third round of talks with ministers on Saturday, the CJP had said the central government had agreed to provide compensation to families of students who committed suicide over the NEET exam fraud and to withdraw all FIRs against protesters.

The CJP had submitted a five-point demand to the government, stating that the next round of talks would be held after four weeks.

Following the 'Cholo Sansad' programme on July 20, multiple cases were filed against protesters across India, and the CJP had demanded their withdrawal as a condition from the very beginning.
