Clashes erupt in London after Morocco's World Cup exit, several arrested
Morocco's World Cup quarter-final defeat to France was followed by unrest in central London, where clashes broke out between celebrating and protesting supporters and police, leaving one officer injured and resulting in multiple arrests.
According to Sky News, large groups of Morocco supporters gathered in the streets after their team's 2-0 defeat to France. Some climbed onto vehicles, set off fireworks and flares, and blocked roads, prompting riot police to intervene to disperse the crowds.
London's Metropolitan Police confirmed that several people were arrested during the disturbances, while one police officer sustained injuries in the operation.
Authorities moved swiftly to restore order as tensions escalated following Morocco's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, French authorities had deployed more than 20,000 police officers across the country ahead of the high-risk quarter-final, but no major incidents were reported in Paris after the match.
Morocco's defeat ended another historic World Cup campaign.
