CMP’s top-listed criminal ‘Pichchi Jahed’ killed in Satkania

Jahidul Islam, 35, alias ‘Pichchi Jahed’, who was listed as the No. 1 criminal on a Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) watchlist, was hacked to death in Satkania months after returning home on bail.

Jahed was attacked with sharp weapons in the southern part of Puranagar Union in Satkania upazila on Sunday night (August 30), police and local sources said.

According to police and locals, Jahed was riding a motorcycle along a road in the area when a group of attackers, allegedly lying in wait, blocked his path and surrounded him. They then repeatedly struck him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

Locals and family members rescued him and took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

CMP records show Jahed was listed first among 330 alleged criminals who were barred from entering or staying in Chattogram city earlier this year in the interest of public safety. He faced multiple cases involving illegal firearms, drug dealing, extortion and other criminal activities.

On January 19, Jahed was arrested during a joint operation by the army and other security forces in Puranagar, with 104 yaba tablets and 15 locally made weapons allegedly recovered from his possession. He was later released on bail and returned to the area.

Police suspect the killing may have stemmed from disputes over drug and arms trafficking, territorial dominance, rivalry between criminal groups or previous enmity.

Additional Superintendent of Police for Satkania Circle Mohammad Ariful Islam Siddiqui said police visited the scene after receiving the report, collected evidence and prepared an inquest report.

The body was sent to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said. Police are investigating the killing.
