‘Cocktail 2’ earns ₹51cr worldwide in two days
Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer Cocktail 2 has made an impressive start at the box office, emerging as the strongest performer among this week’s major releases and racing towards the ₹51 crore mark globally within just two days of release.
Directed by Homi Adajania, the romantic comedy opened to strong audience interest and managed to dominate the box-office race despite facing competition from high-profile releases, including 'Toy Story 5' and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s 'Maa Inti Bangaram.'
According to trade figures, the film collected ₹13.5 crore on its opening day in India, followed by an estimated ₹16.25 crore on Saturday. With that, its two-day domestic net collection has reached ₹29.75 crore, while the gross domestic total stands at approximately ₹35.7 crore.
The film has also performed strongly in overseas markets. After earning around ₹20.2 crore worldwide on day one, it added another ₹15.25 crore internationally on its second day. As a result, the film’s global earnings have climbed to nearly ₹50.95 crore within its first two days in theatres.
Written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, Cocktail 2 has received mixed reviews from critics, but audience turnout has remained strong, helping the film maintain momentum at the ticket counters.
Although marketed as a successor to the 2012 blockbuster Cocktail, actress Kriti Sanon previously clarified that the film is not a direct sequel. Instead, it serves as a fresh franchise entry featuring a new storyline and entirely different characters.
The story follows childhood friends Krunal and Diya, whose lives take an unexpected turn during a vacation in Sicily, Italy. A reunion with Diya’s old friend Ally after a decade sets off a chain of events that gradually transforms a seemingly harmless plan into a web of complications, emotional conflicts and unforeseen consequences.
With strong weekend collections and positive word-of-mouth among younger audiences, industry analysts believe Cocktail 2 is well-positioned to cross several major box-office milestones in the coming days.
