Cocktail blast at Gopalganj polling centre, 3 including child injured
A cocktail explosion took place at a polling centre in Gopalganj Sadar during voting. Two Ansar members on duty and a child were injured. The main gate of the polling centre was also damaged in the blast.
The incident occurred around 9 am on Thursday, February 12, at Reshma International School polling centre in Sadar upazila. The injured are Ansar member Sukontha Majumdar, Section Commander Jamal Hossain who were on duty at the polling centre, and a 13-year-old child, Amena Khanam, who had accompanied a voter.
Sub-Inspector Jahidul Islam, on duty at the polling centre, confirmed the incident. He said voting was proceeding peacefully at the centre around 9:00 am when miscreants threw a cocktail targeting the polling centre from across a canal outside. Three people, including two Ansar members, were injured. The loud blast caused panic among voters and locals present.
He further said evidence was collected from the spot and higher authorities were informed. The situation remains under control following the incident.
