Construction worker shot by assailants in Noakhali
Unidentified assailants arrived in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and shot a young man in Begumganj upazila, Noakhali. The victim, Faruk Hossain, 27, is a construction worker and son of Abul Kashem of Sharifpur village. He is currently undergoing treatment at Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital with bullet wounds to his lower abdomen and knee.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, June 9, in the Kalamiar Pool area of Hajipur union. Police and local sources said Faruk was standing by the roadside when three to four assailants arrived in an auto-rickshaw and opened fire. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting.
Locals rescued Faruk and admitted him to hospital. Resident Medical Officer Dr Rajib Ahmed Chowdhury said the victim was brought to the emergency department around 8:45 am and is now in stable condition in the surgery ward.
Begumganj Model Police Station OC Md Shamsuzzaman said police visited the scene and suspect that an organised local gang is behind the attack. Efforts are underway to identify and arrest those involved.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Begumganj Circle) A N M Imran Khan said Faruk used to drive an auto-rickshaw but now works as a construction labourer. Preliminary investigation suggests the attack may have resulted from previous enmity. Several names of those involved have already been identified, and multiple police teams are working to apprehend them.
