Court orders filling murder case in Salman Shah's death after 29 yrs

A Dhaka court has ordered the filing of a murder case over the death of popular actor Salman Shah, nearly 29 years after the incident.
Dhaka’s 6th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Jannatul Ferdous Ibne Haque passed the orde on M9nday (October 20), granting a revision petition filed by the actor’s mother Neela Chowdhury, confirmed her lawyer Abid Hasan.
The court directed that the complaint filed earlier by Salman’s father Kamar Uddin Chowdhury and the confessional statement of accused Rizvi Ahmed alias Farhad be included in the new case. Ramna Model Police Station has been tasked with reinvestigating the case and submitting a fresh report.
Lawyer Abid Hasan said Kamaruddin Ahmed Chowdhury had filed an unnatural death case after Salman was found dead at his Eskaton residence on September 6, 1996, but his later request to treat it as murder was rejected despite Rizvi’s confession.
Over the years, several investigations — by CID, judicial inquiry, RAB, and PBI — concluded it was suicide. However, the family continued to challenge the findings.
After multiple rejections and appeals, the court on Monday finally scrapped previous exemption orders and directed authorities to file a fresh murder case and reinvestigate the death.
