India’s active COVID-19 cases have surpassed 7,000, with six new deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health’s update on Wednesday, June 11, 306 new infections and six fatalities were recorded across the country.

Among the six deaths, three occurred in Kerala, two in Karnataka, and one in Maharashtra. One of the deceased was 43 years old with a weakened immune system, while the other five were elderly patients with pre-existing health conditions.

In recent days, COVID-19 cases in India have been rising sharply. Variants LF.7, XFG, and Gen.1 are responsible for most infections, and a new sub-variant, NB.1.8.1, has also been identified.

Despite the rise in cases, health experts have advised against mass booster dose campaigns. They recommend booster shots primarily for the elderly, immunocompromised individuals, and those with severe illnesses.

Since the majority of the population has already been vaccinated, experts believe there is no immediate need for widespread vaccination drives.

However, they emphasize the importance of continuing preventive measures such as wearing masks, maintaining hand hygiene, and avoiding crowded places.

In response to the increasing cases, the central government has issued guidelines to local authorities and urged them to stay prepared for any situation.

Experts also stress the need to differentiate between COVID-19 and common fever symptoms, cautioning that not every fever, cough, or sneeze should be assumed as COVID-19.
