Cricketers mourn Khaleda Zia’s death
BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia has passed away, leaving the nation in mourning. Alongside politics and the entertainment industry, the country’s cricket fraternity has also expressed deep sorrow over her death. Several former and current national team cricketers shared condolence messages on social media.
Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal Khan wrote in a verified Facebook post, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. With her passing, the country has lost a symbol of strong leadership. May Almighty Allah forgive her sins and grant her Jannatul Ferdous.”
Another former captain, Shakib Al Hasan, said, “Former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at six this morning. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. At this moment of grief, I express my deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. Over a long political career, she made significant contributions to the country. May Allah grant her forgiveness.”
Former captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza also expressed his condolences, saying, “I mourn the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. My deepest sympathy goes to her bereaved family, relatives and well-wishers. The nation will remember her contribution through years of political struggle. May Allah grant peace to her departed soul.”
Mushfiqur Rahim posted a brief message on social media, writing, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.” National team all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz wrote, “May Almighty Allah forgive former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia and grant her the highest place in Jannah. I pray for peace of her soul.”
Former opener Imrul Kayes also expressed grief, saying, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May Allah grant Begum Khaleda Zia forgiveness and Jannatul Ferdous.”
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board expressed condolences over her death. As a mark of respect, the board decided to postpone today’s two Bangladesh Premier League matches.
