A member of the Islami Chhatra Shibir at Chittagong University has been accused of harassing a female student with obscene remarks while hiding his identity on a private Facebook group. The incident occurred on Saturday night. The victim's Facebook post about the matter quickly spread, sparking widespread criticism across the campus.

The accused has been identified as Ali Ahsan Mozahid, a third-year student of the Arabic department and an activist of the university's Islami Chhatra Shibir unit. He also serves as the Public Relations Secretary of the student organisation 'Voice of Students'.

On the private Facebook group 'Chattogram University Family', which includes teachers, students and officials, a post was made regarding the residential Shamsunnahar Hall and its hall parliament. When the victim commented on the post, Mozahid allegedly made obscene remarks anonymously. His identity was later uncovered with the help of group admins and moderators.

The victim told the media that she confronted Mozahid directly through messages. He admitted to the act and claimed he was instructed to make such comments, apologising for his behaviour.

She said such anonymous harassment is deeply concerning. She is currently at home for the Eid holidays and will take further action after returning to the university.

The accused did not respond to repeated phone calls or text messages.

University unit Islami Chhatra Shibir Secretary Mohammad Parvez acknowledged Mozahid's affiliation with the organisation but claimed he had been inactive for a long time. "Mozahid is a low-ranking activist and has been inactive in the organisation for a long time. The highest disciplinary action will be taken against him," Parvez said.

Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CHAKSU) Law and Human Rights Secretary Fazle Rabbi said a formal complaint could not be filed as the victim is currently at home. With her consent, preparations are underway to file a complaint with the university's anti-ragging and bullying cell. They have also advised filing a case with the Cyber Tribunal and offered free legal aid through CHAKSU's free legal cell.

Assistant Proctor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Hossain said no formal complaint has been received yet. Action will be taken after receiving a complaint and conducting an investigation through the designated cell.
