Cyberattack disrupts flights across Europe
A cyberattack has hit the website of Collins Aerospace, which provides check-in and boarding services at major airports in Europe. As a result, hundreds of flights of several airlines at London Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin airports have been cancelled.
In a statement, Collins Aerospace said it was unable to provide services due to a “technical glitch” and that fixing the problem would take time.
Collins Aerospace provides services to several airlines and airports worldwide. Most Europe-based airlines rely on its services. Due to the cyberattack, check-in and boarding systems have been paralysed, forcing airlines to cancel flights.
Airports in London, Brussels and Berlin have already notified passengers about the cancellations via text messages.
However, not all major airports in Europe were affected. Operations remained normal at Frankfurt, Hamburg and Zurich airports.
A Brussels Airport official said passengers would be served manually until internet services are restored.
