D K Shivakumar sworn in as Karnataka Chief Minister
D K Shivakumar, President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, was sworn in as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka in a grand ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, June 3, at the Glass House located on the premises of the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru. Alongside him, G Parameshwara took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister.
Before taking the oath, Shivakumar paid tribute to the portrait of his spiritual guru, Sri Veer Gangadhar Swamiji, as supporters cheered. He then took the oath of office and secrecy, holding a copy of the Constitution and invoking the name of his revered guru.
The ceremony began with the rendition of 'Vande Mataram', followed by the national anthem performed by the Karnataka State Police Band. The state song was also played. Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh welcomed the distinguished guests and invitees. Before the formalities began, Shivakumar honoured outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by draping a shawl around him.
Among those present were Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and several top Congress leaders including Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Revanth Reddy, V D Sathisan, K C Venugopal and Ranjeet Singh Surjewala.
With this, Shivakumar formally assumed the office of Chief Minister, marking a new chapter in Karnataka's political history.
