David's 37-ball century helps Aussies clinch T20I series over Windies
Tim David hammered a blistering 37-ball century as Australia secured a six-wicket win over the West Indies on Friday, clinching the Twenty20 international series 3-0. Chasing a daunting 215, David smashed 102 runs not out, featuring 11 sixes and six fours, guiding the Aussies to victory with 23 balls remaining at Warner Park.
David’s explosive knock included a record-breaking 50 off just 16 balls—the fastest half-century by an Australian man in T20Is. He partnered with Mitchell Owen for an unbeaten 128-run stand, the highest fifth-wicket partnership in Australian T20I history, surpassing the previous 105-run record held by David and Mitch Marsh. Owen contributed a rapid 36 off 16 balls.
A turning point came in the 10th over when David took 28 runs off Gudakesh Motie, including a four and four consecutive sixes. He also plundered three sixes and a four off Roston Chase in the 12th over. David sealed the match and his century with a boundary off Romario Shepherd on the final ball of the 17th over.
Earlier, West Indies opener Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 102 off 57 deliveries—his maiden T20I century—guiding his team to 214 for four after they were sent in to bat. Hope's innings included eight fours and six sixes. He shared a 125-run opening stand with Brandon King, who made 62 off 36 balls before being caught by Sean Abbott.
The five-match series continues on Saturday with the fourth game at Warner Park.
