Death toll rises to 359 in Nepal floods-landslides, 1,500 missing

Nepal Police has reported that the death toll from floods and landslides along the Nepal-Tibet border has risen to 359. At least 1,500 people are still missing.

The Kathmandu Post reported this information citing Nepal Police on Thursday. Police spokesperson Abhi Narayan Kafle has confirmed the revised death toll.

According to the latest information, 121 bodies have been recovered in Chitwan, 74 in Nawalparasi East, 29 in Dhading, 29 in Gorkha, 28 in Nuwakot, 19 in Tanahun, 17 in Rasuwa and 15 in Nawalparasi West.

Rescue and search operations are continuing in various areas even after the floods. Members of the police and other security forces are working to find the missing. At the same time, residents are being moved to safer places from risk-prone areas.

Floodwater flowed over Rasuwa and other districts and went downstream through the Trishuli and Narayani rivers. As a result, various settlements, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged.

A report of news agency Reuters said at least 700 foreign tourists are also missing in the Nepal side bordering Tibet.

Rescue teams are searching for the missing by helicopter. At the same time, emergency supplies including tents and food are being delivered to remote and isolated areas.
