Dembélé scores second-fastest hat-trick in World Cup history
France's Ousmane Dembélé wrote his name into the history books at Gillette Stadium in Boston. By completing a hat-trick in just 32 minutes, the French winger secured the record for the second-fastest hat-trick in World Cup history, overtaking England legend Gary Lineker's 35-minute hat-trick against Poland in the 1986 World Cup.
However, the record for the fastest hat-trick remains with former Austria striker Erich Probst, who scored a hat-trick in just 24 minutes against the former Czechoslovakia in the 1954 World Cup. Although Dembélé could not break that record, he placed his name second on the 72-year-old list.
An in-form Kylian Mbappé played a major role in all three goals. In the 7th minute, assisted by Mbappé, Dembélé cut inside from the right to slot the ball into the far corner for his first goal. In the 20th minute, he scored his second with a curling effort from outside the box, once again from a pass by Mbappé. He then completed his hat-trick by scoring the third goal in the 32nd minute.
